Style Trend - Cut Out Shoulders

Good enough for Diane Kruger, good enough for me! The latest style trend this summer is all about chic cut-out shoulder tops and dresses. I got mine from Lauren Conrad line for Kohls' (in sale for $13- SCORE!) I have never watched her reality show, but have to say I love her line of clothing at Kohl's! Pair this floral cut out shoulder blouse with cut off shorts for a casual look. Wear it with a skinny jeans, add a statement necklace (like this Retro acrylic necklace) and a cute pair of flats for a more polished look.

I am in love with this cool necklace - the color goes with everything and the clean lines look sophisticated enough to take from day to night. All the pieces in the necklace are movable, that create a soft, fluid fall at the neck. The best part - it sells for only $13.68 and FREE shipping! If you are boutique owner or a bulk buyer, they offer even lower prices! Check out their shopping portal, they are a part of trusty wholesale brand Alibaba.com
Retro Acrylic Necklace in White from AliExpress Powered by Alibaba; buy it here
This blouse I am wearing is out of stock at Kohl's, but they have a ton of stylish merchandise including from LC Lauren Conrad, Simple Vera by Vera Vang and Jennifer Lopez. You can get 10% off on your purchase at kohls.com with the code BLOGIT10 through August 23 and can even stack your savings with other department specific code as well! How stylishly delightful is that!!

Star Style For Less - Michelle Obama in Buckingham Palace Wearing J Mendel

No wonder we call her our First Lady of style. Michelle Obama shines and sparkles in this J Mendel outfit during the London Olympics reception held  for the head of the states on Saturday in Buckingham Palace. The metallic jacket, pleated white skirt and pointy toe metallic pumps make a perfect ensemble to show off her signature style. I can help you steal her look with my interpretation of her outfit, but you are on your own when it comes to the Royal invitation!

1- Jacket from Coldwater Creek
2- Skirt from 6pm.com
3- Shoes from Vince Camuto via Shoe Box

Kate Middleton's Gold Medal Worthy Look For Less

Kate Middleton's style always gets the top podium in my opinion. Her latest look in the fitted blue Stella McCartney dress, simple silver necklace and black pumps is no exception either. She looks every inch the Royal she is during an Olympic Exhibition in London. You don't need the Buckingham Palace budget for recreating her look. I have got the goods!

Dress - $84.99 - Modcloth
Necklace - $14 - JCPenney
Shoes - 29.99 - Target

Style For Less - Miranda Kerr's Everyday Chic Style

I may not love team USA Ralph Lauren head gear (I mean American men in berets for crying out loud!!) but totally loving super model turned super mommy Miranda Kerr's fedora! The blue leopard print jeans, a simple black tank and a huge carry all tote makes this a chic day time look. Her Current/Elliot jeans will cost little more than $200, but fear not, I got her 'look for less' jeans from Forever 21 for just a tenth of the cost! Her smile is priceless though!

FIDM Museum: 6th Annual Outstanding Art of Televsion Costume Design Exhibition!

TV Costume Heaven:

Stewardess Fab: Costumes from ABC series "Pan Am", Pilot Costumes by Chrisi Karvonides, Series Costumes by Ane Crabtree, 6th Annual Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design Exhibition, FIDM Museum and Galleries (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

Where can you find Pan Am Stewardesses, a Dowager Countess, an Evil Queen, and Marylin Monroe-inspired "SMASH" gold gown? Oh yes, in Downtown LA of course! Well, fashionistas and costume design aficionados, TODAY was the Opening Day of the 6th Annual Outstanding Art Television Costume Design Exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising/FIDM, my alma mater, and college of which I am the Official Fashion Spokesperson.

6th Annual Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design Exhibition Party/Reception at Hope Park/FIDM (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

The exhibition, presented by FIDM Museum and Galleries and Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, was Guest Curated by Mary Rose, President of the Costume Designers Guild. It features over 75 (!) costumes from a variety of TV shows (sixteen of them), including seven nominated for an Emmy® for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design. This past weekend, a VIP reception/party was held at the FIDM Campus to "unveil" this fabulous new exhibition. Guests included:

(Left to right) Eduardo Castro, Costume Designer for ABC's "Once Upon A Time" (he was also the costume designer for ABC's "Ugly Betty"!) and Julie Weiss (love her oversized paillette tunic-dress!) Costume Designer for many films including "American Beauty" "Frida" "The Ring" and (my personal favorite) "Blades of Glory" (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

(Left to right) Chrsis Karvonides, Costume Designer nominated for FX's "American Horror Story", seen here with Mary Rose, President of the Costume Designers Guild and Guest Curator of the 6th Annual Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design Exhibition (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

Mandi Line, Costume Designer for ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars" (above in front of her costumes for the show). Fun fact: Mandi is an FIDM Alumna (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

Now, let's get to the costumes at the exhibition. Like I said at the top of this post, there are over 75 costumes featured and some of the highlights include:

English Class: The Emmy® nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design Costumes from PBS' "Downton Abbey": Yes, that's Maggie Smith's "Dowager Countess" silk velvet and sequin ensemble on the far left--PS: She's Tall! (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

Costumes from NBC's "Smash" (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

The Emmy® nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design costumes from HBO's "Game of Thrones" (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

The Emmy® nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design costumes from ABC's "Once Upon a Time" (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

The Emmy® nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design costumes from HBO's "Hemingway and Gellhorn"--Nicole Kidman starred in this and I have a fun fact from the costume designer, Ruth Meyers: Kidman's inseam is 34". That's the inseam of well, a 6' 2" man ! (she's got fabulously LONG legs!) (photo courtesy of Alex J. Berliner/ABImages)

Nick Verreos and KTLA-TV's Gayle Anderson, 6th Annual Outstanding Art of Costume Design Costume Design Exhibition, FIDM Museum

On Monday, I had the pleasure of filming some Morning TV segments for KTLA-TV Channel 5 LIVE direct from the FIDM Museum and the brand new exhibition with the always fantastic (and my TV Production Segment MUSE!) Gayle Anderson. We had such a blast filming these segments. Miss Gayle is my "sister from another mister" darlings! LOVE her. As a special VIP treat, two of the Emmy® nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design costume designers from this past year--Ruth Meyers ("Hemingway and Gellhorn") and Chrisi Karvonides ("American Horror Story")--were there for some of the KTLA-TV Morning Show interviews at FIDM Museum so I had the honor of meeting them and of course, getting some behind-the-scenes costume design DISH.

Costume Designer Ruth Meyers and Nick Verreos, FIDM

Nick Verreos and Costume Designer Chrisi Karvonides: I had such a ball chatting with Chrisi---she also designed the costumes for ABC's "Pan Am" series pilot so she gave me such great behind-the-scenes dish on the Pan Am stewardess uniforms (you know I LOVE me some Stewardess Uniforms!!). As you can see from one of the photos above, we were in some SERIOUS "Wait, how many pattern pieces to that Pan Am pill box hat? And the Pan Am logo was actually GOLD!!??" conversation.

You can click HERE to see the segments I did with Gayle and KTLA-TV!! (scroll on the videos to find all the FIDM Costume Design Exhibition segments).
